How to hide your friends list on Facebook. (June 2023)

You may have received a friend request from someone you are already friends with. When this happens your friend, when they find out, will let you know that they have been ‘hacked’.

In fact it is very unlikely they have been hacked. What has happened is that someone has copied your friends details and created a new Facebook account in their name. They have then sent friend requests to all of your friends friends.

I’d like to stop this happening to you.

Make your friends list private on a desktop computer

If you are on a desktop computer and logged into facebook THIS link should take you directly to the page on facebook where you can adjust friend settings.

I recommend that you make your friends list visible to ‘Only Me’ or only to ‘Friends’.

Adjust who can see your friends on an iPhone or Android Phone

Open the Facebook app.

Tap on the “Menu” icon on the Top Right or bottom right-hand corner of your screen – This is usually the icon for YOU.

Then Tap on the “Settings” icon in the top right.

Scroll down and Under “Audience and visibility,” tap “How people find and contact you.”

Tap “Who can see your Friends list?”

Select who you would like to be able to view your Friends list.

I recommend you make this ‘only me’ if you don’t see that option click on See More and it should show up.

When done you can just click the back buttons.

Once you have done this, if unsure if it worked, ask one of your friends if they can see your friends list.

Keep in mind that these steps may be slightly different on older-model phones and, as Facebook change things all the time, these instructions may no longer be correct.

You can make virtually everything private on Facebook but to stop ‘hackers’ from being able to invite your friends to the new profile they have created in your name you should make your friends list private.
